150 women block Rahul Gandhi's car in Amethi
The Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who is in his constituency on a three-day visit ending today, was stopped by a group of protesters near Gauriganj, demanding a pay rise. The Congress vice-president was on the third day of his visit and was headed towards Lucknow from Amethi, when reportedly a group of anganwadi workers stopped his convoy and demanded a pay hike. Incidentally, there is a nationwide strike of 10 central trade unions who are protesting what they call anti-worker changes in labour laws and demand improvement in wages on Thursday.
Rahul came out of his vehicle to speak to the agitated workers, but as media approached him, he returned to his car refusing to talk to either the protesters or reporters. The report further said that Rahul's security personnel, in the course of intervening, allegedly misbehaved with the women protesters, following which the women spat on the road as a sign of protest.Earlier in his visit, apparently miffed over scrapping of a mega food park and a Hindustan Paper Mill project in Amethi and shifting of the Rajiv Gandhi IIIT to the main campus in Allahabad, the Congress Vice President said Modi was harming people of Amethi by scrapping development projects.
