Amaravathi is in earthquake danger Zone
Amaravati, the planned capital city of Andhra Pradesh, lies in the earthquake zone-3, said Hyderabad IIIT Earthquake Engineering Research Centre head Pradeep Kumar.
In an interview to a regional newspaper, Pradeep Kumar said that new buildings in the capital city should be constructed according to earthquake-resistant standards and guidelines.
Pradeep Kumar said that loss to life and property was more in the quake hit regions as a majority of the buildings in those areas were not earthquake resistant. High-rise buildings are being constructed in Tokyo and California which are vulnerable than earthquake zone-5 and the AP government should emulate those practices, he added. Pradeep Kumar said that new buildings should be constructed as per Earthquake Resistant Design Code IS 1983.
