Centre confusing AP People !!
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday accused the Union government of confusing the people of Andhra Pradesh by issuing divergent statements on the grant of special category status (SCS).
Maintaining that SCS was the right of the people of the State, Mr, Ramesh said the BJP leadership, including Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and M. Venkaiah Naidu, were misleading people, claiming that the issue was not incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Act. He wondered whether the two Union Ministers who pressed for the extension of SCS for 10 years were not aware of the fact that the provision was not incorporated in the Bill at the time of its passage. Mr. Ramesh expressed solidarity with APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy, MP K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and others who paid homage at Raj Ghat as part of the ongoing ‘soil satyagraha’, involving collection of soil by the Congress grassroots level workers to be sent to the Prime Minister.
The protest was launched after the Prime Minister presented the soil collected from the precincts of Parliament and Yamuna water as gift to the State during the foundation ceremony for Amaravati. Meanwhile, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy, recalling various modes of agitation organised by the Congress, said that the struggle would continue till Andhra Pradesh was granted Special Category Status.
