ICC World T20 : Will India make into Semi-final ?
India survived a mighty scare before pulling off an incredible 1-run victory over Bangladesh in a nerve-wracking low-scoring thriller in the ICC World T20, on Wednesday but team India still can’t relax as the ‘Group of Death’ is turning out to be a real cliffhanger.
1: New Zealand: 6 points in three games with Net Run Rate of +1.283
2: India: 4 points in three games with Net Run Rate of -.546
3: Pakistan: 2 points in three games with Net Run Rate of +0.254
4: Australia: 2 points in two games with Net Run Rate of +0.108
5: Bangladesh: 0 points in three games with Net Run Rate of -1.165
The race for Semi-finals:
Here’s what Group B teams need to do to reach the last four.
New Zealand: They are the first team to get through to the semi-finals of the World T20 2016.
India: They must win against Australia.
If India lose to Australia, and Pakistan beat Australia, then Pakistan, India and Australia will all have four points each. In this case, Pakistan or Australia would qualify because their Net Run Rate is better than India’s.
Australia: If they beat Pakistan and India, they go through, but even if Pakistan beat them, Australia will still get another chance when they play India on Sunday. But Australia will have to register an emphatic win over India to qualify in that case as Pakistan’s NRR would go up when they beat Aus.
Pakistan: Pakistan can make it to the semi-finals if the men in green beat Australia on Friday and India lose against Australia. In that case, India, Pakistan and Australia would have four points each. As Pakistan’s current NRR is better than the other two teams, they will have a better chance to qualify for semis if it comes to NRR.
Bangladesh: They are out of the race now.
