Patels refuse BJP ticket
Slighted by the Gujarat government’s attitude on their reservation demand, the Patels are now “hitting back at the BJP’ in the local body polls scheduled to be held later this month.
They have refused to contest on the BJP ticket in the polls for panchayats and civic bodies at several places.
In Unjha town in North Gujarat, the sitting members of the municipality refused to contest polls on the BJP ticket in protest against the government not heeding the community’s demand for OBC status and quota benefits in education and government jobs.
“Unjha is a BJP citadel as the party controls the municipality for over a decade but this time, all sitting members have refused to contest on the party ticket,” said Parag Patel, a BJP member from Unjha.
