Rajnath Singh reacts to ISIS threat video

A day after the Islamic State (IS) released a video on purported Indian jihadists in its ranks and interviews with five fugitive jihadists known to have joined the outfit, Home Minister Rajnath Singh Saturday said the Centre was taking all necessary steps to protect the country. He was speaking on the sidelines of the International Buddha Poornima Diwas Celebration 2016.

Asked about an IS jihadist threatening “to avenge the Babri Masjid, and the killing of Muslims in Kashmir, in Gujarat, and in Muzaffarnagar” in the video, Singh told reporters, “We are taking whatever steps are necessary to keep the country secure. I feel that all people in this country have confidence; people of all castes and religions will fight the terror forces with all their strength.”

Echoing Singh, MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju said such videos would not be able to sway people in India. “ISIS or whoever is propagating these kinds of things are not going to influence the minds of the people of India,” he said.

Earlier, Singh said, “These days, conflicts among persons and within societies and religions are on the rise. The solution to these problems can be found in Buddha’s message.” MoS for HRD Upendra Kushwaha called for Patna to be renamed Pataliputra and for Ashoka’s birth anniversary to be observed as a public holiday.
