Star India completely taken over MAA Tv Network
The Rupert Murdoch founded media major Star India, owned by 21st Century Fox, has completely taken over the the Telugu broadcaster Maa Television Network.
With this MAA TV goes out of the hands of promoters Nimmagadda Prasad, actors Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna and others.
Following the integration, Star India will be able to offer an enhanced content bouquet to audiences across the southern markets including Telugu speaking viewers.
Announcing this in a statement today, Star India said Maa operates four channels - Maa, Maa Music, Maa Movies and Maa Gold.
It may be recalled that in February, Star India acquired three of these channels, except Maa TV.
Telugu television market is the second largest regional market in India in terms of revenue potential, Star India said.
"The acquisition fills a critical gap in our portfolio and will allow our advertisers targeted access to the large Telugu speaking population. We plan to invest further in this important market to fundamentally change the content quality paradigm," Star India CEO Uday Shankar said.
Star India is a leading broadcaster in India with over 40 channels in eight different languages.
