Threat to Prakasam barrage
Amaravati capital may be deprived of straight approach road connecting national highway at Kanaka Durga varadhi as the engineering experts are opposing a tunnel through Sitanagaram hill as the excavation work may pose threat to the 5-decades-old Prakasam barrage.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had suggested a 16.7-km connecting road to the capital without any curves. He advised the officials to provide a tunnel through the hill if necessary to provide curve-free route. A few of the engineering experts opine that the excavation work for the tunnel to Sitanagaram hill may pose threat to the safety of Prakasam barrage as the vibrations could damage the strength of the barrage structure. The engineering experts of the city said that the excavation of tunnel should not be carried out at any cost to safeguard Prakasam barrage.
